Full bhikkhuni ordinations in California Aug. 29, 2010

There will be a full bhikkhuni ordination ceremony tomorrow, August 29, 2010 3:30 pm PDT in the U.S. (Northern California). It is believed to be the first full ordination of bhikkhunis with an all-Theravada set of preceptors, bhikkhus and bhikkhunis from the Theravada tradition (no 'borrowing' of bhikhshunis from the Dharmaguptaka-Mahayana for the double ordination).

Our own Dhamma Wheel member, Phalanyani, will be one of the three samaneris to receive the full ordination!!!

Unfortunately, my family and I will not be able to attend, but I am in contact with the bhikkhunis and will post any links to photos or videos that they receive or from the lay attendees.

Click on the flyer in the op; it states:

"On August 29, we will celebrate this landmark by fully ordaining three Samaneri as Bhikkhunis,Ven Adhimutta, Ven Suvijjana, and Ven Phalanyani."

But I'll double-check to make sure.

Yup, it was 4 bhikkhunis. It seems that Ajahn Thanasanti made the decision to ordain on the day itself, just hours before the ceremony. Quite a dramatic development as narrated on FB's "Women & the Forest Sangha"..Topic: Letter from Terry Mandel re Ajahn Thanasanti's Bhikkhuni ordination.
