For one of my dear friends on Dhamma Wheel, Blackbird (Jack),
Wishing you the very best as you embark on your journey for ordination.
While I don't think we have seen the last of you, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your wonderful contributions on Dhamma Wheel.
Happy Days my friend!
And I'm sure we'll catch up again somewhere down the path!

Re: Farewell Blackbird!
Greetings Jack,
I am very pleased for you and this rare opportunity.
Along the lines of what Dan said, just remember that there is only ever this moment, here now.
Good luck in hopefully getting the added opportunity to visit and learn from venerable Nanananda, while he is alive, if circumstances permit.
Do keep in touch if you get a chance, as we are greatly interested in hearing how you are faring.
Metta,
Retro.

Blog, Suttas, Aj Chah, Facebook.
He who knows only his own side of the case knows little of that. His reasons may be good, and no one may have been able to refute them.
But if he is equally unable to refute the reasons on the opposite side, if he does not so much as know what they are, he has no ground for preferring either opinion …
...
He must be able to hear them from persons who actually believe them … he must know them in their most plausible and persuasive form.

Re: Farewell Blackbird!
Thank you so much Ben, Dan, Retro, Manapa, Plwk and anybody who posts after this.
I'd like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who posts here at Dhammawheel for making it such an excellent discussion forum. There's a lot of merit in what goes on here and undoubtedly it is a great place to learn the Dhamma and become established in Right View. I think special thanks are in order for the administration and moderation team, you all do an excellent job, and I am very much reminded of a passage from DN 16 - Mahaparinibbana Sutta where the Buddha extols the virtues of the Vajjan republic.
I think most of you are aware, but anyway I am leaving on Tuesday for Bodhinyanarama in Wellington where I will spend a month gearing up for the full on striving and dilligence that is expected of anyone who wishes to stay at Nissarana Vanaya (Meetirigala, Sri Lanka) long-term. Because of this, I expect I will only have sporadic access to the internet. When I do have access, much of this time will probably be spent sending and responding to emails so I must regretfully inform you that my postings here will more or less trail off. However I'll do my very best to stay in touch and you will no doubt here from me in future.
I must say that it is such a rare occurance for an online community to have so much harmony and metta. I think that's indicative of the progress that everyone here is making in their practice. On that note, I wish you all the very best and the greatest success in your aspirations in Dhamma.
May you all find true satisfaction in your lives
May we all come to realization in our practice
With maha-metta

And just a bit of advice. Since you will be wearing what is essentialy a long skirt with no underwear underneath, do be mindful not to accidently flash whomever might be in front of you when you are in the process of sitting and standing. It is a small thing that guys sometimes give little thought to, not having grown up wearing kilts or skirts or such.

Re: Farewell Blackbird!
Best wishes, no doubt I'll bump into you at Bodhinyanarama.
Pronouns (no self / not self)
“Peace is within oneself to be found in the same place as agitation and suffering. It is not found in a forest or on a hilltop, nor is it given by a teacher. Where you experience suffering, you can also find freedom from suffering. Trying to run away from suffering is actually to run toward it.”
― Ajahn Chah
