According to Ajahn Brahm, deep meditation can be attained in the most unorthodox positions.

Just be comfortable, according to the characteristics of your body. If you can sit cross-legged with the back erect, that's fine. If you cannot and you need a chair, that's fine. If you are walking or laying down, that's fine.

Samadhi can be developed just as well in standing meditation.
Interesting.

The Sacroiliac joint is of utmost importance. Not only should that joint be straightened as much as one can - it should be in a position where one can let go of dukkha there from. The SI joint is the absolute key to achieving rapture during meditation - and also for achieving rapture as a element of enlightenment in later meditations. In fact, the truth is that consciousness released from the SI joint is the factor of rapture!
I understand that the factor of rapture on noble right concentration is withdrawal [from sensuality & unskillful qualities] accompanied by directed thought and evaluation, not consciousness released from the SI joint.

It is said that Anando thero attained arhant status in meditation but in a posture between seating and lying down . He was also known to have been in meditation in all 4 postures standing sitting walking and lying ( sleeping posture).
Such description of Ananda thero is found in " Great desciples of lord budda" by Rev. Nyanaponika thero.

Perhaps for Vipassana meditation, the posture may not be important.
