Did you observe Uposatha today?
Did you observe Uposatha today?
Born, become, arisen – made, prepared, short-lived
Bonded by decay and death – a nest for sickness, perishable
Produced by seeking nutriment – not fit to take delight in
Departure from this is peaceful – beyond reasoning and enduring
Unborn, unarisen – free from sorrow and stain
Ceasing of all factors of suffering – stilling of all preparations is bliss

Re: Did you observe Uposatha today?
Not consciously. But at leat I have not broken any of the five precepts, have not eaten more than one meal (but drank lots of coffee and smoked cigarettes like a firebox), not slept very much. So maybe a half-arsed almost-Uposatha.
Addiction to entertainment, wanting to know what's going on in the world. Finding my matress more comfortable than the floor to sleep in general, especially when there's no mental rest. Not thinking about Uposatha.
Thanks for the reminder.

Re: Did you observe Uposatha today?
Greetings
I just assembled a low and not particularly luxurious bed... Does that count?
Metta,
Paul.

Re: Did you observe Uposatha today?
I do not.
But I take every effort to observe all the precepts for the best of my ability.
Some of the precepts I break.
- Sleep in a luxury bed
- Using aftershave
- sometimes I get angry and sware
To be clear I have never observed Uposatha or being to a formal meditation place.
Perhaps you know I spent almost all my waking hours in DW.
It is my temple.
It is where I practice my Dhamma

I personally don't like scheduled observances. However, from time to time I observe Uposatha precepts for several days in a row (sometimes up to a week or more) - just when I feel this is the right time for me. It happens.. well.. naturally.

Re: Did you observe Uposatha today?
Me too, I don't follow any particular schedule and usually end up following all 8 on most days of the week and month.
I have already been doing one meal a day for several years, so that one is easy and then I don't have any regular entertainment shows that I watch, except for some occasional sports events.
Re: Did you observe Uposatha today?
I am always aware of the new moon and the full moon as they have a marked influence on my contemplation conditions. Before the new moon there is an ebb in mental energy and when it arrives there is a surge.
Re: Did you observe Uposatha today?
6 of the 8 precepts
60 minutes sitting (so far)
shaving my head
i failed the entertainment requirement (weakness for Kung Fu movies) and the eating times

Yes, one big meal around the time most people would eat a late breakfast or early lunch.
Re: Did you observe Uposatha today?
What do you during the day?
Do you drink only water?

The only water I drink is the water in coffee and tea.
Re: Did you observe Uposatha today?
Do you take sugar with it?

No, just black, no sugar, no cream.
Re: Did you observe Uposatha today?
Yes it is a good idea.
I used to consume about ten cup of tea a day with one sugar.
My doctor keep on warning me for my elevated blood sugar level.
I did all source of thing to get the reading down without a success.
Then I decided to take tea without sugar.
Bingo! My blood sugar came back to normal.
