Excellent! It's more than I'm doing at the moment, I think I will blame that on the gloomy winter weather.Mary50 wrote:And now steady sitting practice at 45 minutes in the mornings and again in the evenings, also using 20-minute video guided meditations a few times during the weekfor added motivation. My goal is to be able to watch the arising and dissipating of sexual desire for at least another week without giving in to temptation. It is a bit strange because normally I don't have a strong desire for that particular sensual pleasure in comparison to the other 5 senses, but once I started keeping the "abrahmacariya" precept, the body seems to go into rebellion.

Does anyone else have a retreat experience like this?

30 Hours in 30 Days Challenge
Hey Everyone,
I just wanted to propose a challenge to anyone who feels up to it: I am going to see if I can reach the modest goal of meditating for an hour a day for 30 days. I will split it up into three sessions myself and may end up with more than 1 hour per day but I want to see how I feel by essentially doubling my formal meditation.
Any takers?

Re: 30 Hours in 30 Days Challenge
I'm currently doing an hour a day ( 2 x 30 mins ) so would be happy to join you. However I usually have a day off on Sundays, is that OK?Khalil Bodhi wrote:I just wanted to propose a challenge to anyone who feels up to it: I am going to see if I can reach the modest goal of meditating for an hour a day for 30 days. I would be happy to join you. I have a Goenka retreat coming up on the 5th of next month and would love to have increased my sitting so I'm a bit more comfortable for it than previous times!

Great! So that makes three. I'm about to head off for my mid-day sit now (15 minutes only) to get my head back on straight before I get back to work.Alexander____ wrote:I would be happy to join you. Re: The Dhamma Wheel Meditation Challenge
I just started meditating a couple of weeks ago. So far I can't get past 14-15 minutes (sitting), so my goal is to get to 30 minutes by the end of September.
I also take my dog for a walk 2-3 times a day, so I try to take that opportunity to practice mindfulness, paying attention to sounds and tactile feelings while walking. This is not proper meditation but I have to say I enjoy it a lot, it has given a whole new dimension to the very simple and common activity of walking with my dog.

Re: The Dhamma Wheel Meditation Challenge
Sounds like an excellent start. In my experience, it is more about quality than quantity of minutes with the caveat that I am always trying to lengthen my seated meditation. The Insight Timer app has proven to be invaluable. Anumodana on your noble aims! In bocca al lupo!padmini wrote:I just started meditating a couple of weeks ago. That sounds like a great way to practice walking meditation, and I would imagine your dog appreciates it too.padmini wrote:I also take my dog for a walk 2-3 times a day, so I try to take that opportunity to practice mindfulness, paying attention to sounds and tactile feelings while walking. Re: The Dhamma Wheel Meditation Challenge
A little update on my progress.
At the moment my morning routine includes: walking with my dog and practising either mindfulness or Metta, then getting home and following this guided meditation (especially Breath Meditation with Instructions for Leaving Meditation).
Thanks to this, I can sit for (almost) 40 minutes and if you include the walk with my dog, I meditate for a total of almost 50 minutes every morning! I am very pleased with this progress.
I hope with time (my deadline is again the end of September) I can drop the guided meditation and still be able to sit for 35-40 minutes.
