Its possible that you might find the chapter "Unsupported and Unsupportive Consciousness" of interest, from the book "The Island - An Anthology of the Buddha's Teachings on Nibbana" by Ajahn Pasanno & Ajahn Amaro.

Kind regards,

A really superb chapter and very much accords with what I was thinking on the subject.
Thanks

I find that an interesting definition.
(SN 12.12)
* Support for the upkeep of the born and for the protection of those to be born.

What is even more interesting is the definition of consciousness by Buddha:
Monks, to what is called Consciousness (Viññāṇa)?
"Is known," therefore is called consciousness.

"Is known" - just that! - how straight and simple !
Something to keep (easily) in mind.
No need for 200 pages of commentary on that one :)

Well, the simpler, the better for me. Makes sense too.
