Secluded places to meditate in Bangkok?

I've just arrived in the big city, and it seems difficult to find somewhere to meditate.
The several wats I've happened upon seem to be locked, or filled with noodle stalls and parked cars.
For those of you who have been here, where did you meditate? In parks? On the steps of a locked wat? Is it appropriate to sit on the steps and meditate or would that be weird farang behaviour?
I can sit in my room at the guesthouse morning and evening, but it's nice to have a midday sit too.

Hi, you might want to try Wat Mahatat just over the road from the Grand Palace. No sure where in Bangkok you are based but I stumbled upon this Wat looking for shade and it has regular meditation (vipassana) classes. Good luck finding a nice Wat, in bangkok, that's part of the fun. Greet people in Thai to win their hearts and ask around too. Take loads of pics (respectfully of course). I spent hours just looking at murals and images in the various wats in Bangkok. Enjoy and make the most of the Dhamma opportunities!

All farang behavior is weird to Thais...any place you feel comfortable is fine...ear plugs too...

Wat Pathum Wanaram at Siam Square does have a meditation hall where you can go and sit (you might want to wear a bullet-proof vest just in case...). Apart from that, BIA or Buddhadasa center at Suan Rotfai, near Chatuchak and Mor Chit skytrain station, is a very nice place to visit. See www.bia.or.th

Mindfulness should be continuous and can be practised in four postures as well as daily activities.

Sometimes It's not appropriate to sit, make the most of the intensity of Bangkok while you're there, it's a riot!

Definitely a riot today... The police are moving in on some of the protesters as I type... People are clustered around TVs on the street watching the news from downtown.
