Hello from Simon

Post by resistingSi »

Hi World

I am middle aged and have had a few years in asia, from UK tho.

I always feel better when I get closer to this subject.

I want to chat a little, not too technically about the teachings though at this stage.

What happened to e-sangha... that was a great forum - hope this one is too :)

E-sangha demonstrated impermanence, and caused some suffering as it did so (though not to me, since I wasn't heavily involved). This forum and its Mahayanist twin (see link at bottom of page) are excellent replacements.
Actually, DW seems to have been a bit quieter than usual recently. I put it down to northern-hemisphere summer holidays, since it happened last year too.

Welcome Simon!

:anjali:
Liberation is the inevitable fruit of the path and is bound to blossom forth when there is steady and persistent practice. The only requirements for reaching the final goal are two: to start and to continue. If these requirements are met there is no doubt the goal will be attained. This is the Dhamma, the undeviating law.

is there some discomfort between mayayana and theravada views which is a bit hostile?

I thought one was original interpretation and the other a natural development?

Me personally I gained a lot from the theravada experience in thailand but also very interested in tibetan (vajrayana) and shaivism. Is there a compatability problem or is it that some individuals cant agree to manage a forum with variety of views?

Great questions Simon.

Mahayana is mostly based on Nagajurna who came around approximately 500 years after the Buddha and introduced the 'Madhyamaka' philosophy. Most (if not all) Mahayana sutras are later developments, written well after the Buddha passed away.

Good luck finding everything you need.
