From their album Electric which debuted this week at #3 in the UK chart...

"Do not force others, including children, by any means whatsoever, to adopt your views, whether by authority, threat, money, propaganda, or even education." - Ven. Thich Nhat Hanh

"The uprooting of identity is seen by the noble ones as pleasurable; but this contradicts what the whole world sees." (Snp 3.12)

"To argue with a person who has renounced the use of reason is like administering medicine to the dead" - Thomas Paine

Michael Franti's new album, "All People". Here's "I'm Alive" though "11:59" is one of my favorite tracks (not up yet).

Not listening to any music these days because I believe what the buddha taught.
May the triple gem bless bless you, may you quickly realize the 4 noble truths in this Gautama Buddhas dispensation... Sādhu! Sādhu! Sādhu!

If only you knew how rare the Buddha Dhamma was in this Samsara!

Dhamapada verse 182:

Kiccho manussapatilabho
kiccham maccana jivitam
kiccham saddhammassavanam
kiccho buddhanamuppado.

182. Hard is it to be born a man; hard is the life of mortals. Hard is it to gain the opportunity of hearing the Sublime Truth, and hard to encounter is the arising of the Buddhas.
May the triple gem bless bless you, may you quickly realize the 4 noble truths in this Gautama Buddhas dispensation... Sādhu! Sādhu! Sādhu!

Abhidhamma Chanting is music to my ears. It reminds me of my time in Chanmyay Yeikthā, Hmawbhi, where the local monastery used to broadcast the chanting over loud-speakers for days on end. I think they used to recite the entire Paṭṭhāna — the chanting at the link is just the introduction.

Bhante,

Isn't it permited for monks to listen to music if they are related to impermanence, for example, reminding of the eminence death? I think I saw that somewhere, but I'm not sure. Of course that the safest way is to not hear it at all, but still, I'm curious.

:anjali:
He turns his mind away from those phenomena, and having done so, inclines his mind to the property of deathlessness: 'This is peace, this is exquisite — the resolution of all fabrications; the relinquishment of all acquisitions; the ending of craving; dispassion; cessation; Unbinding.'
(Jhana Sutta - Thanissaro Bhikkhu translation)
