Bonjour!

Post by kizma » Mon Mar 11, 2013 4:28 pm

Hi!

I'm from the region of Montreal, in the province of Quebec, Canada.
My first language is french; if you ever need anything translated, feel free to send me a message. ;)

I am currently doing freelance work in illustration, graphic+web design to pay off my student loans so I can ordain as a novice.
There's still a good way to go, so I'll be hanging out here for a while!

I am very interested in understanding in the context of early buddhism, (Language, history, Vedic culture, sramana movement, etc.) and in the practical application of it's ethical teachings to the modern world. I am also interested in knowing more about the specific lessons we can learn about meditation by comparing all the different translations and perspectives on the language of the early suttas.

I've been reading this forum for while now, thought it was about time I jumped in!

Welcome aboard!
Blog, Suttas, Aj Chah, Facebook.

He who knows only his own side of the case knows little of that. His reasons may be good, and no one may have been able to refute them.
But if he is equally unable to refute the reasons on the opposite side, if he does not so much as know what they are, he has no ground for preferring either opinion …
...
He must be able to hear them from persons who actually believe them … he must know them in their most plausible and persuasive form.

Hi Kizma and welcome to Dhamma Wheel!
“No lists of things to be done. The day providential to itself. The hour. There is no later. This is later. All things of grace and beauty such that one holds them to one's heart have a common provenance in pain. Their birth in grief and ashes.”
- Cormac McCarthy, The Road

Learn this from the waters:
in mountain clefts and chasms,
loud gush the streamlets,
but great rivers flow silently.
- Sutta Nipata 3.725
