Buddhist's killing Muslims in the news?

Post by rucontent » Wed Aug 08, 2012 4:29 am

I have a conspiracy theory friend who often brings up outlandish connections. In one of his latest comments to me, he notified me of Buddhists killing Muslims, in what was once Burma. I was able to find a few articles, but still am confused at how to perceive this sentence. In light of not killing and sila stuff, how can it be true that Buddhists are killing Muslims? or is this just sensationalized news reporting?

thanks if you know.

A lot of people who are from Buddhist countries have not made sincere commitments to the Buddha's teachings; every religion has members who provide cultural lip service but do not practice that which their allegiance demands from them.
Gain and loss, status and disgrace,
censure and praise, pleasure and pain:
these conditions among human beings are inconstant,
impermanent, subject to change.

Knowing this, the wise person, mindful,
ponders these changing conditions.
Desirable things don’t charm the mind,
undesirable ones bring no resistance.

His welcoming and rebelling are scattered,
gone to their end,
do not exist.
