I was wondering whether the historical Buddha made many jokes. Was he like Ajahn Brahm?
Thanks,

I could tell you, but first you would have to learn Pali.

Re: Funny Buddha
He did not joke around. There are some examples of humor in the texts but no examples of the Buddha making any nonsense immature jokes like those that so endear Ajahn Brahm to the public.

Re: Funny Buddha
When Ajahn tells a joke it makes one want to listen to him. Do you think it is such a bad thing for a senoir monk to joke around so much?
Thanks

When he tells a joke it makes me less inclined to listen.

I suggest you track down a copy of Richard Gombrich's excellent How Buddhism Began: the conditioned genesis of the early teachingsFuture Bhikkhu wrote:I was wondering whether the historical Buddha made many jokes. Was he like Ajahn Brahm?
