Yes, i would say you've outed yourself!!
18 years ago I made one of the most important decisions of my life and entered a local Cambodian Buddhist Temple as a temple boy and, for only 3 weeks, an actual Therevada Buddhist monk. I am not a scholar, great meditator, or authority on Buddhism, but Buddhism is something I love from the Bottom of my heart. It has taught me sobriety, morality, peace, and very importantly that my suffering is optional, and doesn't have to run my life. I hope to give back what little I can to the Buddhist community, sincerely former monk John

Hi Denise,

I've sent you a PM in relation to this...

It's a good point. Whilst I'm not going to prescribe it, I would hope that the new forum takes on board Thich Nhat Hanh’s Fourteen Precepts of Engaged Buddhism. Those I have bolded below seem particularly pertinent to the point you raise.
Great idea!
I am not sure whether I will be in the new forum but time will tell.
My nature is not to chase news.

I'd like to participate, it sounds fun and also keeps discussion about practice and impassioned debates separate. I like that idea.

I like that it keeps the Dhamma as taught by the Buddha for the purpose he taught the Dhamma, here.
I like that it keeps the Dhamma as taught by the Buddha for other purposes and goals, there.

I have no inherent problem with the second of those objectives, but to hear those who prioritise the second over the first, I grow weary of them denigrating the Buddha's way, by insisting we must all be vegetarians, or activists, or socialists, or other things that the Buddha never demanded of his followers. To allow each approach to have its own space, where each approach will now be beyond the reproach of the other, is likely to lead to more harmonious discussion, amongst people who have a common goal, common world-view and common appreciation for the purpose of the Dhamma.

It's a little like how the separation between DWT and DWM works well, because (generally speaking) we believe in the arahant path, whereas they believe in the bodhisattva path. Different paths, different motivations, different goals, different understandings of one another's paths... etc. As it is there, so too with the Dhamma, as taught by the Buddha for the purposes of disenchantment and renunciation of the world, and the Dhamma, as transposed into scenarios that are consciously more "engaged" with the world.

As with DWM & DWT, if people are interested in, and capable of respecting the parameters of two, or even now three DW sites, then good for them!

I meant the more impassioned bits like sad rants about things the Buddha wouldn't really have a hand in discussing ie. gossiping about celebrities, kings, and politicians, or things like starbucks, and America-trashing for fun blather.

Embarrassing stuff.

Agreed.
Bear in mind that some of it wouldn't count as "Engaged Buddhism" either.

Agreed. It will be interesting to see how a group of Engaged Buddhists decide to address such matters over time.

If it's technically possible.
I think we should leave it up to the moderating team for the new site to decide on what should be migrated.
As noted with respect to some of the posts in our New section:

Also, moving and deleting would very likely break various links...

Yes, including to the member-lists, as noted here. I wouldn't attempt it.

Oh wow I check all those boxes .. at least gossiping about kings and America-trashing.

I was merely analysing Prince of Wales' income and expenditure account vis-a-vis a British member here suffering from gall stone pain for seven weeks due to NHS breaking down owing to lack of funds.

and

refuting assertions made by US media and senior politicians on Jan 20th, 2017 that USA is the greatest democracy on earth .. I consider those two threads "Harry, Meghan and my Papanca" and "American Exceptionalism" to be some of my best work here ..

But for me some Americans might never have known how an entire archipelago full of innocent and defenceless people was nuked repeatedly back in 50s and 60s by USA.

Edit Add - not 50s and 60s but between 1946 and 1958, the U.S. detonated 67 nuclear devices in Marshall Islands .. 5.5 every year on average.

Don't worry too much. Making people aware of a problem is not the same as gossiping and I think there's room for a bit of frivolity. I don't see much room for racism, sexism or sectarianism, though.
Let's see how it turns out ...

Oh no, I do not worry, I am fine!! I am never in the least bothered who writes what or thinks what about me.

I am like General Patton who was once asked by a reporter "I hear you always have a Bible by your bedside, do you pray" and he replied "Yes son, every God damned day."

It takes time to understand my variety of Buddhism and it is an acquired taste such as sushi. Not meant for everyone.

This turned up on my FB feed today. It doesn't represent my position, of course, but it does seem relevant.
