*For whatever reason, (due to being on my cell phone?) I am unable to post the link to Amazon where you can get the book.*Early Buddhist Meditation Studies (Volume 1)
In this book, Bhikkhu Analayo, scholar and meditation teacher, examines central aspects of Buddhist meditation as reflected in the early discourses of the Buddha, based on revised and reorganized material from previously published articles. The main topics he takes up are mindfulness, the path to awakening, absorption, and the brahmaviharas. He compares parallel versions of the discourses in a variety of languages which offers a window on the earliest stages in the development of these Buddhist teachings.

New book from Venerable Analayo
Liberation is the inevitable fruit of the path and is bound to blossom forth when there is steady and persistent practice. The only requirements for reaching the final goal are two: to start and to continue. If these requirements are met there is no doubt the goal will be attained. This is the Dhamma, the undeviating law.

I just this week ordered Compassion and Emptiness in Early Buddhist Meditation by Analyo. I'm sure people were already aware of this release, but here is the link if you weren't: https://www.amazon.com/Compassion-Empti ... 1909314552

Thanks for this, I'm looking forward to this one
@Phena: Compassion and Emptiness is a wonderful book, very deep and pragmatic wisdom in my opinion. His take on the practical application of "emptiness practice" is very interesting and would make for a wonderful discussion at some point.

Buddha Vacana, didn't you have a thread where you reviewed the book?
I'm starting to do my review, and it's going to be in very small installments over time.
First installment:
covers MN 128, SN 40.1, narrative fallacy

Re: New book from Venerable Analayo
Is this a typo? Shouldn't it read: "...overcoming drowsiness is an advanced practice." ?

Re: New book from Venerable Analayo
Hi Frankk (nice to see you posting on jhana over here). To play devil's advocate on your "second installment" on circular reasoning, maybe Analayo does have an at least arguable point (hadn't thought about it myself this way before)? His logic seems to be that later enlightenment factors are dependent on earlier enlightenment factors, so concentration must depend on the five earlier ones. If Sariputta is observing their arising and passing, then on the passing of an earlier factor, the later enlightenment factor, concentration, must also be consequently absent at the time. That seems to be his argument, which doesn't seem circular to me.frank k wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 4:45 pm third installment:
