DW is secure site

Post by DNS »

DW is now verified a secure site and has the https protocol. As of Jan. 2017 browsers have been notifying users that http sites are not fully secure; so we upgraded our domain to the verified-secure https. No site is one hundred percent guaranteed from hacking, but the https adds another level of protection against our passwords and private information from being hacked.

We are now working on getting our other sister sites up and running with the https too.

You can see the lock figure in the browser (depending on your browser) to the right or left of the browser bar. You might still see the 'not secure' designation on some pages and that is due to some members posting images from insecure sites. Otherwise, our passwords and information is much more secure now.

Thanks to Bhikkhu Samahita and SDC for bringing this to my attention about the new designations.

Cool :)

Some folks say HTTPS is slower than HTTP so let me just say now the difference is so negligible you'll likely never notice it!

Greetings,

Unfortunately, the existing "video" code does not function now that we have moved to https.

To get videos to work, we must now enter the URL directly...

Code: Select all

Correct: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCc9A4jFI54
Incorrect:
Assuming we stick with https, we'll look at retiring the old "video" code.

Metta,
Paul. :)

To make the videos visible once more in posts you wrote,

Go to Advanced Search cog wheel on top right

Search for keywords . including the "box brackets" [ ]

Search for author username

Return first All available You may skip this one if you do not write 300 characters before the video. Default value of that parameter is 300

Edit all the posts that show a black rectangle in place of the video and omit
(as shown above by Retro)

Example

Search for keywords .

Search for author No_Mind

Return first All available

Click search Do not include any other parameters

Edit all the posts that show a black rectangle in place of the video and omit

That's correct. We'll see about changing the video code, otherwise we'll be stuck with manually editing all posts with videos to the new format so that the videos will show. I started editing some posts already so that the videos will show.

Fixed! You might have to hit refresh a few times as the old code might be cached on your computer.

DW and associated sites were offline for a few hours. There is a glitch with the security certificate that causes the site to go down occasionally, so we disabled the certificate for now until we get it fixed. You can still post in the interim, you just might get some warnings that the "site is not secure" but you can still post as the risk is very minimal. To this date most websites do not have the security certificate, including most forums.

I am being told now that the site is trying to load unsecured code?
I am using chrome and it is a shield icon in the address bar.
Blog, Suttas, Aj Chah, Facebook.

He who knows only his own side of the case knows little of that. His reasons may be good, and no one may have been able to refute them.
But if he is equally unable to refute the reasons on the opposite side, if he does not so much as know what they are, he has no ground for preferring either opinion …

That is because the page you were loading had someone's avatar or other embedded image that was loaded from a http (insecure) site. The rest of the page loading was all secure.

Ok so third party content embedded may cause the notification. Thanks
