Vietnam recently abandoned its nuclear energy plans and is now to pursue a renewable energy policy with the help of Denmark:

Good news.

SE Asia is happily leapfrogging right over some technologies to use the latest and best so this isn't a huge surprise, pleasing though it is. Little villages that never had mains electricity or copper-network telephones have jumped straight to solar-powered microgrids and mobile phones.
And renewable energy is now cost-competitive with fossil fuels in many markets and applications, e.g. https://cleantechnica.com/2015/04/13/so ... er-prices/. Decisions being made on purely economic grounds end up favouring solar and wind, and the reduction in CO2 emissions is a bonus rather than the primary reason.
