Hi, Paul, the article is pretty accurate (in spite of being short, shallow and including one obvious error) and is reporting on legit science -http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1 ... 9/abstract.retrofuturist wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2018 8:15 amGreetings,
The Ocean Floor Is Sinking Under The Water Weight From Melting Glaciers, And It's As Bad As It Sounds
The news was new to me but makes perfect sense in the context of elastic rebound of mountains as the ice burden of glaciers melts off them, which we have known about for some years. I have wondered whether these earth movements are triggering a few extra volcanoes along the fault lines, but I have never seen any research on it.
FWIW, Eastern Texas is sinking, too, but for a different reason - they have pumped so much oil out from underneath it that it's subsiding into the void. In turn, that makes Texas' sea level rise look greater than it really is. Poetic justice? Maybe.
