More People Trained in Metta to Promote Peace

Post by LG2V »

Would we be able to prevent wars and promote a better society by training more people in loving-kindness meditation, particularly at the jhana level? I remember reading a story (I can't find the exact sutta) about a king who asked monks to train him in metta meditation. After 7 years of training, he returned to his kingdom, and the people lived happily.

I'm not rich enough to fund such a program, but one day I might be. lol hopefully. What do you think about financing people to learn metta meditation from proficient monks? I live in the United States, so I thought that Christian clergy and aspiring Buddhist monastics would be good candidates. Then they could teach and make Metta "go viral". :woohoo:

It would sure beat our current military budget and criminal-industrial complex.

There is a web site similar to what you are describing:
https://www.theofferingbowl.com/

People post their petition/wish for funds for participating in upcoming Buddhist retreats and events and donors can send them donations. It is sort of like gofundme or kiva, except that it is strictly for Buddhist programs.

A less expensive and perhaps more feasible option would be to host some programs at your house or at a local yoga studio or temple. You could invite monks or nuns to teach and pay for their travel and the rent of the facilities and then offer the programs for free.
