Satipatthana Practice
I've been studying and practicing Satipatthana for a while, and it seems to me like you could devote and entire lifetime to it and still not master it, because there's a lot there, in this just one practice.

Re: Satipatthana Practice
Tiṭṭhatu, bhikkhave, aḍḍhamāsaṁ,
Let alone half a month, monks,
yo hi koci, bhikkhave, ime cattāro satipaṭṭhāne evaṁ bhāveyya sattāhaṁ
whoever should develop these four ways of attending to mindfulness in this way for seven days
tassa dvinnaṁ phalānaṁ aññataraṁ phalaṁ pāṭikaṅkhaṁ:
for him, out of two results, a particular result is to be expected
diṭṭhe va dhamme aññā; sati vā upādisese anāgāmitā.
final knowledge in this very life; or, there being some attachment remaining, the state of non-returner.
Ekāyano ayaṁ, bhikkhave, maggo sattānaṁ visuddhiyā,
This is a one-way path, monks, for the purification of beings,
sokapariddavānaṁ samatikkamāya, dukkhadomanassānaṁ atthaṅgamāya,
for the overcoming of grief and lamentation, for the extinction of pain and sorrow,
ñāyassa adhigamāya, nibbānassa sacchikiriyāya,
for attaining the right way, for the direct realisation of Nibbāna,
yad-idaṁ cattāro satipaṭṭhānā ti.
that is to say, the four ways of attending to mindfulness.
Iti yan-taṁ vuttaṁ, idam-etaṁ paṭicca vuttan”-ti.
Thus, whatever was said, it is for this reason it was said.”

Re: Satipatthana Practice
Yes, it's a lifetimes work. I have found it is useful to keep it simple, focus on one aspect or approach for a period of time.one_awakening wrote: ↑Sun May 27, 2018 3:08 am I've been studying and practicing Satipatthana for a while, and it seems to me like you could devote and entire lifetime to it and still not master it, because there's a lot there, in this just one practice.
How are you approaching the practice?
Buddha save me from new-agers!
Re: Satipatthana Practice
What i did was to note whatever questions i had while training and resolve on writing them down immediately after the practice so that i could ask them when i had the next interview, usually i had at least 10 questions but i did run out of questions eventually and it definitely did not take a lifetime.
Mastery is a loose term tho and i do not consider myself a master of Satipatthana Meditation but i know more or less how to practice it.
