Of course, as Thanissaro Bhikkhu goes on to say, the path does involve work. One can't just drop the illusions immediately unless one is already as developed as the five companions, and can attain liberation by just reflecting on the above sutta...The Buddha wrote: But because consciousness is nonself, consciousness leads to affliction, and it is not possible to have it of consciousness: ‘Let my consciousness be thus; let my consciousness not be thus.’
