Sila in dreams

Have you ever had a dream in which you broke a precept (or two), realized that you had done so, and felt guilty/ashamed? Then upon waking, you experience a great relief realizing that you didn't break any precepts after all (at least not in waking life), and how fortunate you are to be protected by sila?

Yes!! Those are sort of my version of nightmares. Most often for me it is drinking or killing an animal or person. I remember having a dream where I for some reason killed a couple animals, really screwed me up for a day, but I kept reminding myself I had not done this and I have committed not to kill any being. I suppose we could call that moral dread/moral shame?

I can't immediately recall breaking a precept in a dream.
Fortunately it is not against the precepts to be lost in a big city with no clothes on!

Lol JohnK...Yes these are my versions of nightmares too nowadays. At the end I feel really guilty...not fun but probably a good thing, the conscience expressing itself at a subconscious level

When I saw the thread name I assumed it was about wholesome/virtuous decisions/impulses in dreams, which are very encouraging and can really make your day. I'm not interested in the akusala appearing in dreams, the mind is burning with them, hardly surprising. Take note of the sila, and be encouraged.

Dreams can certainly be a sign to the quality of the penetration of the dhamma in the unconscious mind, in relation to both morality & wisdom. I have had dreams where morality & wisdom have engaged in the dreams, including if dying in the dream, where the mind actually brings forth sampajjana in the dream & lets go. Its cool.

This seems to show being a dhamma librarian is right livelihood (or otherwise being an arahant).
