hello all....just wondering....if a person could defy gravity, would they not fly off the planet into space?...would that be ascension?
They can't defy gravity. Thankfully the mind made body is an energy body that can travel anywhere and multiply too.

The physical body, on the other hand, must obey the laws of physics.

I did a hang-gliding course years ago, which was quite exciting. Hang-gliders have a slow glide speed, which means that in a strong wind you can be moving backwards relative to the ground, which is a little disconcerting! But it was nice to be up there, a great sense of freedom. These days I watch birds flying, and marvel at how easy they make it look.

If people can levitate, does that change anything about the nature of the Four Noble Truths? In this sense, it really is not worth your time. Perhaps some day you will attain deep states of meditation and who knows maybe you will incidentally find out that this also allows you to levitate, but that is not what we should strive for.

Physics-wise, No one can levitate, whosoever it was/is/will be, under ordinary natural everyday environment.

"dhamma-wise", every imaginable as well as unimaginable state can happen.

I would have believed it but he poured way too much effort when he added music effects to the video.

To overcome gravity you just need some dark energy, and apparently there's a lot of it about.

In a scientific sense, it could be the mind's ability to change the density of the body. I read about such explanation in modern psychic ability (ESP) materials.

In a Theravada sense, complete instructions be found in Vishuddhamagga. Why didn't we witness any real life demonstration so far.

That does not sound scientific at all though.

That is what I read on some reports on modern cases. And it seems to be a plausible scientific explanation from an atomc level. It is the same for the case of producing fire.

This may be of interest:

Summary
A comparative study of reports that the Buddha and his disciples journeyed
to celestial realms or traversed considerable distances on earth through the
power of levitation gives the impression that at an early stage these would
have been envisaged as being done with a mind-made body. Probably as a
result of literalism, a tendency that makes itself felt in various ways in the
early Buddhist texts and which has led to a range of developments in the
Buddhist traditions, at a relatively early stage this would then have led
to the idea that such feats involve acts of levitation done with the physical
body.

I don't know whether we can levitate during meditation.
The great thing about this knowledge is if I start to levitate in my meditation, I will not get panic.

I remember reading here about a monk that levitate without he himself knowing it while others witness it.

How is it scientifically plausible to assume that the density of one's body can go from 900kg/m3 to less than 1, and on top of that upon command by the mind?

That is what I read from ESP accounts. The way it is willed in more ancient materials seems to have some correlation to this.
