Solo Retreat On Budget For 30 Days Help Please

Post by Mr.SeanStewart »

I am interested in taking time for silence for 30 days without any communication and I am currenlty living with other people.

I"m living in Canada (Calgary) I'm eager to know where I can possibly go to be able to have a room and 1 vegeterian meal per day for a month for the lowest price possible?

Please guide me if you can

Greetings,

If you are determined to do this, I would recommend either:

1. Stocking up on supplies and finding a free camping site that's isolated from others.
2. Finding a monastery that will have you (although you may be expected to adhere to certain conditions that may compromise your own requirements)

Metta,
Paul. :)

I don't know about 30 days, but there's several thai forest monestaries in Canada, there's a nice one in BC runned by Ajahn Sona.

Can you not stay at home but cut out all distractions, or is it too noisy?

FYI Buddhism isn't a vegetarian religion, and if you stay at a monestary you'll have to pick from the options available, and that is dependent on what is donated.

Hi Sean

Try here: https://forestsangha.org/community/mona ... ken-forest

Here: https://forestsangha.org/community/mona ... ies/canada

However, as previously said, probably best to not hope for vegetarianism.

thank you so much friends, appreciate your kind pointings.

I Find that the retreats are all booked months ahead and have so many limitations and restrictions on how long one can stay. From reading their website they only allow up to 2 weeks. (which makes sense otherwise it could turn into a hostel for homeless people)

... and also on what they expect you to be doing, which may not be in accord with your intentions.

Do you know anyone with a cabin that's not being used this winter? Or do your friends know, or maybe parents know of some cabin you could use... Spread the word.
Make a request on social media or similar websites, saying something like "cabin or shelter wanted for 30 days of personal silent retreat. Can't pay much but will take loving care of the cabin"

Or wait until summer and find a mosquito free area to camp for 30 days out in the forest.

What about this: https://www.liberationpark.org/retreat/persrets.htm

You must bring & cook your own food but it appears to be for free although you probably have do to some work. Its near Chicago.
