Culadasa on Positive Reinforcement

Post by Pseudobabble » Sat Jun 02, 2018 10:56 am

One of the most important topics in my opinion. Culadasa brings together a western scientific outlook and the practical aspects of the tradition very well.
"Does Master Gotama have any position at all?"

"A 'position,' Vaccha, is something that a Tathagata has done away with. What a Tathagata sees is this: 'Such is form, such its origination, such its disappearance; such is feeling, such its origination, such its disappearance; such is perception...such are fabrications...such is consciousness, such its origination, such its disappearance.'" - Aggi-Vacchagotta Sutta

'Dust thou art, and unto dust thou shalt return.' - Genesis 3:19

'Some fart freely, some try to hide and silence it. Which one is correct?' - Saegnapha

Ajahn Brahm has said similar things in his meditation sessions. He tells people to cultivate being relaxed and happy in the present moment to give the mind a reason to stay there.
Whatever a bhikkhu frequently thinks and ponders upon, that will become the inclination of his mind. - MN 19

Culadasa also wrote a meditation manual (The Mind Illuminated) that I found extremely helpful.

And on his website he has available several series of audio teachings. One of these is focused on cultivating joy.
