meditation objects for samatha meditation

Post by kamui » Thu Jun 15, 2017 3:13 pm

hi,

for the last year my mediation practice been deteriorating.from 1 hour every day it got to 40min and then to 30min.
i got deviated septum so to watch the breath is a struggle.sometimes i feel it ok but most of the time i can barely feel it(or feel the inhale but not the
exhale) so its very hard for me to build concentration like that.i wanted to ask if there are other objects besides the breath at the nose one can use
for samatha meditation?

Behind mindfulness of breathing, the second most popular meditation subject is metta or loving kindness.

Here is a great resource on how to practice this type of meditation:

:namaste:
To study is to know the texts,
To practice is to know your defilements,
To attain the goal is to know and let go.

- Ajahn Lee Dhammadharo

With no struggling, no thinking,
the mind, still,
will see cause and effect
vanishing in the Void.
Attached to nothing, letting go:
Know that this is the way
to allay all stress.

Try Ajaan Lee's Method 2 (Thanissaro teaches this one too). It has worked well for me. No need at all for the nose in this one.
"Does Master Gotama have any position at all?"

"A 'position,' Vaccha, is something that a Tathagata has done away with. What a Tathagata sees is this: 'Such is form, such its origination, such its disappearance; such is feeling, such its origination, such its disappearance; such is perception...such are fabrications...such is consciousness, such its origination, such its disappearance.'" - Aggi-Vacchagotta Sutta

'Dust thou art, and unto dust thou shalt return.' - Genesis 3:19

'Some fart freely, some try to hide and silence it. Which one is correct?' - Saegnapha
