Monks giving food to lay, people: against Vinaya?

This question was raised in Sutta Central and worth discussing.
I have a monk I closely associate and some times I travel about 75km to see him.
Every time I went to see him he offers me tea and a biscuit.
He does not serve it to me, but he takes me to the kitchen and show me where the tea and biscuit is.
