The value of proofreading English for monasteries
The value of proofreading English for monasteries
When I lived in a monastery, during a time, I spend hours transcribing from audio to paper. None of these talks have ever been published. This type of activity is happening in so many Buddhist places. There are enough Buddhist teachings in the world. Its really not very important.
There is always an official executioner. If you try to take his place, It is like trying to be a master carpenter and cutting wood. If you try to cut wood like a master carpenter, you will only hurt your hand.

Sorry to disagree with you. There are enough Buddhist teachings in the world. Its really not very important.
There are lot of Buddhist materials but it is not easy to separate the fact from the fiction.
There are tons of rubble but very little gold.
The true meaning of Buddha's teaching is still hidden.
I spent hours of browsing materials and now and then I find some treasures.
I think quantity is important sometimes as much as the quality.

Re: Looking for proofreading help from native English speakers
Greetings,
I actually agree with DooDoot.
I'd be happy to contribute to such a process if I thought the translation would provide an advancement on how the Dhamma is understood in the West (as was the case when I proof-read several sermons from Nanananda's recent series on Paticcasamuppada), but I see little value otherwise.
If anyone wants me to proofread English translations of any of ven. Nanananda's Sinhalese-based sermons which currently remain untranslated, please let me know via PM.
Metta,
Paul.

I'd like to see more Buddhist talks with a more contemporary interpretation, as well as ones that are more tailored to niche communities. I think that those would be quite valuable.
