New Suttta Central Site is Live

Post by mikenz66 » Thu Mar 08, 2018 5:38 pm

The new Sutta Central site is up!

https://suttacentral.net
https://discourse.suttacentral.net/t/were-live/8576/

There are bound to be some teething problems, but it looks great. The new feature of reading Ven Sujato's translations in parallel with the Pali is amazing.

:woohoo:

Mike, how do you get to the parallel translations?

Sam, when you're viewing a sutta, click the settings button (cog icon), then the "View original text with translation" heading will include these options: Side by side, line by line, or pop-up.

Of course, it only works with Sujato's translations, as they have been constructed that way.

It is cool, though. You can go to:
https://suttacentral.net/mn1/en/sujato
Turn on side-by-side translation and Pali lookup using the cog icon, and examine passages like:
They perceive earth as earth. pathaviṃ pathavito sañjānāti;
Hovering over the Pali gives the dictionary lookup.

Oh, wow! That's neat!

Many thanks Nicolas and Mike. Many hours of harmless fun ahead!

In the next ten years they'll probably sell us an implant so we can read the Pali and understand it automatically...

Note that the new site breaks links like:
https://suttacentral.net/en/an4.62
which affects many of the sutta discussions on our Forum.

See my post here:
https://discourse.suttacentral.net/t/were-live/8576/47
and here:
https://discourse.suttacentral.net/t/is ... ite/8583/8

I understand they are working on that, as it affects the SC discussion forum as well.

Its brilliant (although it only works with Bhikkhu Sujato's translations).

They're intending to fix it, so be patient...

Though you could probably edit your "Notes..." reviews and replace /en/ with /
