Yeah I'm looking forward to the new book. But I'm wondering why most of his books are offered for free on his website but others are for sale in bookstores?

"... let each daily theme sink gently into the mind."
- Part 2: editor’s note

Themes: (- bullets are the phrases/sentences I like most, from each theme)

Day 1. Relax
  • Relax and be aware.

Day 2. Be Simple and Just Know
  • Don’t exert.

Day 3. Always Meditate
  • Awareness, awareness, awareness. Whatever you do, know it as you do it.

Day 4. Check Your Attitude
  • stay open and available to all experience, pleasant or unpleasant.

Day 5. Stay with Awareness
  • keep awareness, not objects, continuous.

Day 6. Just Light Awareness
  • just a light recognition at the back of the mind all the time...

Day 7. Don’t Struggle with Thoughts
  • Thoughts are just another object that can be known. That is all.

Day 8. Do Everything with Awareness
  • Stay interested, not so much in objects as in the awareness that knows the objects.

Day 9. β€œNot Me, Not Mine”
  • allow our experience to unfold naturally.

Day 10. Be Aware with Right View
  • Change in the present moment never happens to objects or to experiences. Change only happens in the mind that is observing.

Day 11. Examine Desires and Aversions
  • It only becomes a problem when these thoughts become the attitude by which we relate to reality.

Day 12. Let Go of Stories
  • Don’t believe in the stories told by desire or aversion.

Day 13. Ask Questions
  • Ask questions not to get answers but to strengthen awareness.

Day 14. Stay Interested
  • don’t underestimate the value of everything you are conscious of, even though it may not make sense right away. Stay interested.

Day 15. Study and Learn
  • study the anger in detail: ..... What is the nature of anger?

Day 16. Don’t Look for Insights
  • So just keep practicing. When the wisdom is strong enough, the mind is able to see more clearly, in more detail. It will spontaneously begin to see more cause-and-effect relationships, more connections.

Day 17. Appreciate Awareness
  • Instead of complaining about what is or is not happening, you should always appreciate that you are aware and learn from it.

Day 18. Desire to Understand
  • We practice being aware because we want to understand.

Day 19. Allow the Mind to Expand
  • Once you are able to see this whole picture you will begin to understand how all objects interact and affect each other.

Day 20. β€œIn Seeing, Only the Seeing”
  • to notice that craving, aversion, and delusion are only temporary visitors

Day 21. Concepts vs. Reality
  • Reality is always accompanied by the concepts that we lay over it.
  • Not to the exclusion of the concepts but seeing them now within the encompassing nature of awareness.

Day 22. Investigate Suffering
  • Nothing outside of the mind triggers the mind.

Day 23. Let Wisdom Do Its Work
  • When wisdom is strong enough, it will do the work of removing craving, aversion, and delusion.

Day 24. In Happiness, Stay Aware
  • Never forget to keep meditating, even when things are going well.

Day 25. Create Positive Momentum
  • Whenever a certain habit or quality of mind becomes your nature, its momentum is very strong. It becomes your natural way.

Day 26. Awareness while Speaking
  • But most significant is that a strong sense of β€œI” becomes activated when we speak, and this powerful feeling starts to control what we say and how we say it.

Day 27. Awareness while Listening
  • It means staying with your awareness of everything that’s happening in your mind and body as you listen.

Day 28. The Intention to Move
  • Watch for as many such intentions as you can.
  • Intentions don’t only occur at the beginning of movements or actions. They occur throughout the beginning, middle, and end of all movements and actions.

Day 29. The Intention to Think
  • ... it is not a good or a bad thingβ€”it’s just another natural process to notice.

Day 30. The Intention to Eat
  • When we are eating, we tend to get lost in concepts.

Day 31. Dhamma Is Understanding
  • Practicing dhamma is not seeking to have an experience. Practicing dhamma is understanding.

What’s pointed to here is the difference between conceptual and experiential understanding. Meditation is ultimately about the latter, but concepts, such as the ones you are absorbing right now, can be powerful pointers to direct experience.

What you want to avoid is mistaking concepts for reality.

Very possible ... in every situation
After some practice, we can meditate when we are talking and interacting with other people as well. It’s very possible to consciously observe and investigate the mind and body in every situation.

Cute teaching on "kamma", imo.
It is the nature of mind to arise and pass away every moment, but each moment leaves a legacy for the next moment. That’s why it’s important to cultivate the mind’s wholesome qualities such as patience, perseverance, joy, and equanimityβ€”so that they become the legacy that is passed on.

Awareness taking on a life of its own
As we persevere, momentum builds, and eventually we notice awareness taking on a life of its own. It gets to the point that awareness isn’t just kicking in once in a while for short periods but starts to become continuous.

Right view is the understanding that the mind is nature,...

Right view first.
Yes, that's also the point Mogok Sayadaw always emphasized.
Right view needs to be present in the mind even before awareness,...

The only job:
Our job as meditators therefore is really only threefold:
  • first,
    • have right view;
  • second,
    • be aware with right view;
  • and third,
    • continue to be aware with right view.

Seeing itself can be the object [in addition to the objects being seen].
Yet seeing can be an object in the same way that we can be aware of the objects being seen.

Right attitude:
My teacher, Shwe Oo Min Sayadaw, gave concise right attitude instructions in three short lines: β€œDon’t try to do anything; don’t try to prevent anything; but don’t miss what’s happening.”

here is a short quote from the thread:
Sujin Boriharnwanaket:
If one thinks that one should rather have objects other than the present one, since these appear to be more wholesome, one will never study the object which appears now. And how can one know their true nature when there is no study, no awareness of them? So it must be the present object, only what appears now. This is more difficult because it is not the object of desire. If desire can move one away to another object, that object satisfies one's desire. Desire is there all the time. If there is no understanding of lobha as lobha, how can it be eradicated? One has to understand different degrees of realities, also lobha which is more subtle, otherwise one does not know when there is lobha. Seeing things as they are. Lobha is lobha. Usually one does not see the subtle lobha which moves one away from developing right understanding of the present object.
