Sleeping pill every night

Post by alfa »

Friends,

I suffer from chronic insomnia. I've been taking a sleeping pill (alphrozam+melatonin) every night, never felt better. Just 0.5mg dosage.

Do I continue taking it every night?

Do people have any experience with it?

I need your feedback, insights, etc.

Thanks.

I think you should talk to your doctor or pharmacist about continuing to take it. Asking random strangers on the internet is not a good way to make medical decisions. Even if they have experience and insight, they may give the wrong advice for your particular circumstances.

It is habit forming .. If your doctor asks you to quit after 2 weeks then quit. It is not a good habit.

Alprazolam is not medication for insomnia.

Try and understand why you cannot sleep. Good sleep hygiene would cure most insomnia. But some people are true insomniacs like me.

Try the drug-free approach like cardio workout, 1-hr fast walking or 45-min jogging would help you sleep much better without any pill.

You might try seeing an Ayurvedic doctor and receiving a treatment for vatta.

I do all that. The body becomes tired but the mind doesn't allow it to sleep. But the pill works in relaxing the mind, calming the nerves. So it becomes easier to sleep.

I would also say you need to talk to a physician about this and take all factors into account. Asking for advice on medications or treatment of health conditions on a internet forum is not a great idea. You will get a lot of off the wall advice and outright bad advice, sprinkled in with some good advice, and it will be difficult for you to know which is which. :anjali:

Who said that we have to sleep?
Last night I had only four-hours sleep!
I thought it was a good excuse to meditate.

'We will be devoted to wakefulness. During the day, sitting & pacing back & forth, we will cleanse the mind of any qualities that would hold it in check. During the first watch of the night, sitting & pacing back & forth, we will cleanse the mind of any qualities that would hold it in check. During the second watch of the night, reclining on his right side, we will take up the lion's posture, one foot placed on top of the other, mindful, alert, with the mind set on getting up [either as soon as we awaken or at a particular time]. During the last watch of the night, sitting and not pacing back & forth, we will mindfully engage the internet with the thought: "may I be the first to reach 10,000 posts on Dhamma Wheel!". That's how you should train yourselves."

I think Retro and David have broken the record.
Now my objective is to beat David.

I always have a mug of green tea before bedtime and it helps me to get a good night's sleep. Maybe you could try it instead of taking sleeping pills?

Greetings,

Anything that can potentially be habit-forming should be used sparingly and with discipline.

There are herbal supplements which can assist sleep - especially those containing ingredients like valerian and passionflower. These may be preferable alternatives.
