Hello, im looking for a forest monastery to spend a few months in as a layman in either thailand, myanmar or malaysia. Ive spent 6 months in Myanmar's Pa-auk tawya meditation centre previously and would like to experience a place similar. Im currently in bangkok waiting for the green light on a few applications but its taking a while (2+weeks ) well, Pa-auk seems to be holding up the reference part of the process for others im guessing. they may be busy approaching vassa period, so on that note, any places i can just walk in and get on with meditation would be fantastic.
How did you find your 6 months at Pa Auk may I ask?
Just head out and go to the monastery you've applied at. Your application has probably been lost or forgotten amidst the chaos of the pre-rains period. If they have room and if you say you applied weeks ago, they should give you a mat on a floor somewhere.
Better than waiting in Bangkok anyway.
Make sure you're shaved and wearing a nice clean white shirt.
Even the big monasteries like Nanachat only reply if the answer is No. They expect people to just apply and turn up without receiving a reply.
For Malaysia, I recommend Sasanarakkha, Nandaka vihara (pa auk tradition), Vihara Buddha Gotama ( Ven Dhammavuddho). You can look them up online.
