Pa Auk Monastery question.

Discussion of ordination, the Vinaya and monastic life. How and where to ordain? Bhikkhuni ordination etc.

Pa Auk Monastery question.

Post by eto »

Has anyone sent time at a Pa Auk monastery outside of the main one in Mawlamyine? if so, how was your experience?

I've spent a month at the centre in Mawlamyine and it was amazing. I am considering ordaination there but was thinking it may be more straight forward say in Thailand or Sri Lanka given visas in those countries seem to be easier to deal with.

Also if there are any monasteries in the world that are equally as wonderful (serious deep practice and well established Sanga etc) as that place, do let me know :)

There aren't any monasteries that are as well organized to cater for westerners as Pa Auk, including sponsorship of the visa:

That is true. if one is really into the Pa Auk Method, the place will provide the best situation relatively to others. Pa Auk also has internal politics and incidents, but the Sayadaw is a perfectionist and manages not to let such incidents disturb the daily flow of the monastery. Some foreign monks used to nag about the food, but you have to inquire about it from a recent visitor.
