Are there any EBT suttas not found in the paali collection?
Are there any EBT suttas not found in the paali collection?
i.e., found in other early collections but not the nikaayas
Born, become, arisen – made, prepared, short-lived
Bonded by decay and death – a nest for sickness, perishable
Produced by seeking nutriment – not fit to take delight in
Departure from this is peaceful – beyond reasoning and enduring
Unborn, unarisen – free from sorrow and stain
Ceasing of all factors of suffering – stilling of all preparations is bliss
Bonded by decay and death – a nest for sickness, perishable
Produced by seeking nutriment – not fit to take delight in
Departure from this is peaceful – beyond reasoning and enduring
Unborn, unarisen – free from sorrow and stain
Ceasing of all factors of suffering – stilling of all preparations is bliss

Re: Are there any EBT suttas not found in the paali collection?
Greetings,
Do you mean things like agamas, which don't have Pali parallels?
Metta,
Paul.

Hi maranadhammomhi,
You can check out the parallels, or lack thereof, from the lists on Sutta Central: https://suttacentral.net/
The answer, is, of course, "yes".

Those who don't know any of the relevant languages would best begin with those non-Pali collections that Sutta Central has in English translation. Unfortunately owing to copyright issues with Ven. Anālayo's translations the only ones presently available are a small number by Ven. Ānandajoti, Sāmaṇerī Dhammadinnā, and Marcus Bingenheimer...mikenz66 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 28, 2017 1:19 am You can check out the parallels, or lack thereof, from the lists on Sutta Central: https://suttacentral.net

Greetings,
If you find any there that appear particularly noteworthy, by all means feel free to initiate a discussion on them.
Metta,
Paul.

SuttaCentral.net has most of Bhikkhu Bodhi's translations online through some sort of Creative Commons License. Why wouldn't Ven Analayo choose a similar sort of license when publishing his books?

Re: Are there any EBT suttas not found in the paali collection?
Greetings,
Re: SA109
Indeed... it reads like a high paced mish-mash of other teachings.
I liked this section, and couldn't help thinking of the "common folk" as activists who push identity based issues (i.e. "a multitude of wrongness"), and the "noble disciple" as the one who can see the drawbacks of such folly...
I guess the human condition hasn't radically changed in the last 2600 years.
Thanks for sharing!
Metta,
Paul.

It explains the wrongness of white supremacy and black supremacy etc. to a T.A noble disciple who is endowed with the vision of the truth gains the fruit of right comprehension (abhisamaya ). If the common folk has wrong view, that has its basis in identity view (sakkāyadiṭṭhi ), accumulates through identity view, arises through identity view, and emerges through identity view. That is, being covered by and experiencing worry and sorrow, they [still] celebrate and cherish it, call it a self, call it a living being, call it outstanding, special, and hold it to be superior.
“In this way this multitude of wrongness has all been completely given up and eradicated, removed at its root; like a plantain tree it will not arise again in the future.
I guess the human condition hasn't radically changed in the last 2600 years.

It doesn't have most of them, but only a selection that Wisdom Publications have agreed to release for this purpose.
You would need to ask him. We're not acquainted. Why wouldn't Ven Analayo choose a similar sort of license when publishing his books?

Venerable, is it the case that these aren't available for free, or whatsoever? If the former, where can I pay for them?Dhammanando wrote: ↑Thu Dec 28, 2017 4:27 am Unfortunately owing to copyright issues with Ven. Anālayo's translations

Re: Are there any EBT suttas not found in the paali collection?
My understanding is that they are free but that the copyright is held by that Japanese Mahayana outfit that distributes Buddhist Gideon Bibles to Asian hotels. I've forgotten its name now.maranadhammomhi wrote: ↑Fri Dec 29, 2017 10:31 amVenerable, is it the case that these aren't available for free, or whatsoever?
