Gender of Buddhas
I know this has probably been asked and answered many times, but I know that Sammasambuddha can only be a man, and an Arahant can be any gender, but can a Paccekabuddha be a woman or is it the same with a Sammasambuddha and it can only be a man?

Dear Wizard in the Forest,
just my 2 cents, the next great and needed teacher will be origin from a woman and I don't mean just from the womb.

...We Buddhists must find the courage to leave our temples and enter the temples of human experience, temples that are filled with suffering. If we listen to Buddha, Christ, or Gandhi, we can do nothing else. The refugee camps, the prisons, the ghettos, and the battlefields will become our temples. We have so much work to do. ... BUT! it is important to become a real Buddhist first. Like Punna did: Punna Sutta Nate sante baram sokham _()_

Re: Gender of Buddhas
Attachment to gender will be a hindrance to progress anyway as will attachment to this present life.
Buddhas are genderless.

Non-acceptance is not the opposite of attachment, but non-attachment is.Hanzze wrote:As non acceptance of gender will TMingyur, as non acceptance will.

So, no one knows? I know what a Paccekabuddha is, and it's easy to speak of non-attachment to gender when you're not a woman. I, however, was born one so I would like to know (regardless). I have accepted what I was born as in this life, but I would like to know.

This is what I have called hindrance.Wizard in the Forest wrote:... it's easy to speak of non-attachment to gender when you're not a woman.
You can also phrase it "clinging to aggregates".

That's funny, because I am aware such a condition does not last, but that was not what I asked about. What I asked was direct.TMingyur wrote: This is what I have called hindrance.

Re: Gender of Buddhas
But honestly, does no one know about it? I know that Paccekabuddha were often travelling ascetics in the past, and because women couldn't become ascetics before the Buddha ordained Bhikkhunis I assumed and extrapolated that perhaps they're all men, but I don't know if that is a statement on potential as well. So I asked.
