What is the pali for rebirth? I did a search and it is variously translated as: 'punabhava', 'punnabhava', 'punabbhava', etc.. Which one is correct?

Re: pali term for rebirth
Puna-bhava = punabbhava
Also upapatti or uppatti, or simply jati.

Re: pali term for rebirth
Upapatti-bhava = 'rebirth-process'
Re: pali term for rebirth
I'm sure Stefan has his answer after all this time, but in case anyone wonders by --- the meaning you already associate with "re-birth" may not fit into any Pali word.Stefan wrote:What is the pali for rebirth? Jaati = birth (sometimes rebirth?)
upa-patti = [toward-] attainment (sometimes rebirth?)
puna-bbhava = re-becoming [process] (sometimes rebirth?)
abhinibbatti = production/result (sometimes rebirth?)
the list goes on.
Re: pali term for rebirth
Mahasatipatthana sutta, dhammanupassana, dukkha samudaya sacca niddeso: "Where does this craving arise (uppajjati)?"
Sabbaasava sutta: "When one attends unwisely, unarisen taints arise (uppajjati) and arisen taints increase."
As with the other Pali change indicators, I have yet to see uppajjati used where "re-birth" couldn't be done away with.
