If you read German, you can find some excellent books for studying Pali.

Heinz Reissmüller has published two good books. One of them gives an introduction to grammar, with excersizes and texts for reading: "Pali. Eine Einführung in die Sprache des Buddha". This one is systematic and good:

The other book, recently published, is suited for those who already have learnt some grammar, for instance by studying Lily de Silva's introduction to Pali or similar introductions. In this book, "Pali-Übungen. Sprachbeispiele aus den Sammlungen der Reden des Buddha", the author persents short sentences from the Tipitaka and gives an analysis and translation - often several translations. Here is an example from the book (without the special Pali characters):

Sabbe dhamma nalam abhinivesaya. Nalam = na alam, nicht genug, nicht ausreichend; (abhi-) nivesam (hier als Dativ) bedeutet: Wohnstatt; Sichniederlassen; Hängen an, Neigung zu.
Wörtliche Übersetzung: "Alle Dinge sind nicht ausreichend für eine Niederlassung." K.E. Neumann gibt den Sinn zutreffend mit einer deutschen idiomatischen Wendung wieder: "Kein Ding ist der Mühe wert." Bhikkhu Bodhi übersetzt: "Nothing is worth adhering to". (M 37)

Thus he treats sentence after sentence. Excellent!

If these links do not work, just go to http://www.amazon.de" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and search for Heinz Reissmüller.

It's a good book, but there's no need to pay 23 Euros for it. It's available free from lots of German websites (they are respectable ones, so I assume they are not breaching copyright).

Very good. Then I guess his latest book also will be published for free download at those sites.
