I heard about this happening in Thailand in the past, it appears it just happened recently in India!

:candle: I have mostly read about tigers in SE asia (who seem to leave monks mostly alone), but leopards may be a different thing.

Conditions are different now with the big cats being confined to reserves and often prey is scarce. Several attacks have occurred in the Ramdeghi area recently. Since this monk was in a big cat reserve and far from the monastery in an area where he had been meditating for a month, it seems either foolhardy or a lack of knowledge to be doing so. Is it clear comprehension ?

"According to the Com., 'clarity of consciousness' is of 4 kinds: regarding the purpose, the suitability, (inclusion in the meditative) domain, and the undeluded conception of the activity concerned. Explained in detail in Com. to Satipatthāna Sutta. (tr. in The Way of Mindfulness, by Soma Thera; BPS)."---Buddhist Dictionary, Nyanatiloka

For Death-there is no hindrance anywhere.
Isn't it a fact that all these pleasures last only so long as one has merits?
Without believing in the words of the Buddha
which bring samsaric sufferings to and end,
what is the use of dancing-of fun and frolic?
['Lo-wáda Sangarava' - A Sinhalese poem of the 15th century - by Venerable Vidagama Maitreya Mahathera - Translated by: Bhikkhu K. Nanananda ]

Perhaps he was just testing his attainment. Perhaps he even became enlightened when the animal strangled him.
