subduing hatred

Post by Dhammarakkhito »

"When one gives birth to hatred for an individual, one should direct one's thoughts to the fact of his being the product of his actions: 'This venerable one is the doer of his actions, heir to his actions, born of his actions, related by his actions, and has his actions as his arbitrator. Whatever action he does, for good or for evil, to that will he fall heir.' Thus the hatred for that individual should be subdued.

if only kamma were known to everyone. just how many prisons would be shut down? how many executions canceled?
you never have to worry about someone not getting theirs, and in knowing forgiveness you dont become another victim
justice is for fools

as i understand it, this man is guaranteed an aeon in hell. unredeemable for that length of time

it may be counter-intuitive, but for this fact he needs our compassion. his fate will be much much worse than being bludgeoned to death

[edit:] ok, some of the comments said he is possessed (by a demon), im not sure if it's true but i watched the beginning in slow motion
could he have said 'it wasn't me'? anyway, it was just an example

The Anger-Eating Demon (retold)

Once there lived a "demon" (asura) who had a peculiar diet: He fed on the anger of others.

His feeding ground was the human world. And there was no lack of food for him. For he found it easy to provoke a family quarrel, or national even racial hatred. So to stir up a willingness for combatants to fight was not very difficult.

Whenever he succeeded, he could gorge himself during a war without much further effort. Once war is started, hate multiplies by its own momentum and affects even normally friendly people.

The demon's food supply became so rich that he sometimes had to restrain himself from overeating, being content with gnawing on a small piece of resentment here and there.

Native American Legends
Two Wolves
A Cherokee Legend
An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. "A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy.

"It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego." He continued, "The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you - and inside every other person, too."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."
And what is right speech? Abstaining from lying, from divisive speech, from abusive speech, & from idle chatter: This is called right speech.

Feel sad for him. 1 sec anger proliferates and gives 5 min statisfaction but more than eoan of suffering.
I may be slow learner but im at least learning...
