Bedtime reflections of the lay disciple

Post by celso »

Hi, everyone
I'd like to share some verses I composed, which I did to condense some healthy emotions about the Dhamma I have sometimes.
I hope someone finds it useful.

'A layman's bedtime reflection

My fellows in the lay life
Endowed with faith and love for the Teacher
Who, like myself, work arduously to stand upright in this trembling world
May they grasp the Dhamma for their happiness
May their duties be few
May their worries be weak
Knowing the difficulty of upholding the Dhamma across barren wastelands
I remain mindful of the noble fellowship led by the Flawless One
- - -
I hereby forgive all beings, may all beings forgive my wrongdoings.
As a gift to all others I will mindfully
— carefully
strive to emulate that Hero
who is second to none.
- - -
I call to mind all those sincere practioners
Lay and ordained
Those true Sanctuaries of Dhamma
May their understanding grow each day
May they be lights in this weary world
Crossing over and helping crossing over
To that Safe State
gone to which all one's worries fly away
- - -
With a heart uplifted and faculties serene, I will now sleep.'

Blessings to us all.

What nice thoughts to have before bed! Probably conducive to sound sleep

Hi celso,

Wonderful! I also have bedtime reflections, and I call it the "Falling asleep ritual" (I also have the "Waking up ritual").

Yours is very poetic -- I love it! Mine is a bit different, but I find it beneficial. :) We must encourage people to make up their own.

Another awesome day on Planet Earth, Stephen! It was an incredible day, my dear friend! That was Thursday, 17 November 2016. Day 4. Tomorrow will be Friday, 18 November 2016.

I did really well today. I felt amazing happiness, peace, joy and bliss. I was kind, caring, good, strong, mindful and wise. I helped many people feel better. I learned, discussed, contemplated and practiced Dhamma to the best of my ability.
Tomorrow, I continue. I vow to do even better than today.

My goal is Nibbāna as soon as possible and leading other beings to Nibbāna.

May the Buddha, the Dhamma, and the Sangha bless me and may the Triple Gem bless all beings!

Have a peaceful sleep, Stephen. See you in the morning.

*smile gently*
*recollect positive memories*
*drift off into a deep, pleasant, beautiful sleep*
