Adosa with every kusala citta vs metta as an abiding

Post by phil »

Hi all

This is carrying over from the fingersnap of metta thread in a different forum, but last night looking through CMA I was reminded that there is adosa with every kusala citta, if I'm not mistaken. So if there is something that is synonymous with metta with every kusala citta, what are we talking about when we say speak of "divine abidings" or "unlimited minds" etc? According to Abhidhamma are adosa that accompanies every kusala cittta and "metta" really synonymous or does the latter refer to what someone was explaining the other day about metta as a samattha subject that is obviously different from a moment of kusala in daily life?

I hope this makes sense.

Thanks

Adosa in another kusala = no wishing that the profit will arise to the others. Because kusala can't wish to do dosa, to damage, anyone, so while kusala arising, it is no dosa, adosa, although there is no wishing that the profit will arise to the others.

Adosa in metta = wishing that the profit will arise to the others. It is not just kusala arising, but it is kusala arising and wishing that the profit will arise to the others.

Thanks theY, that's pretty clear.
