Life continuum

Post by zan » Sat Nov 12, 2016 3:07 pm

According to the Abhidhamma, when is the life continuum is present? Only when no other consciousnesses are arising? So between other consciousnesses and when sleeping?

Or is it present at all times beneath every and all consciousness except jhanic states and nibbana, path and fruition?

Oh, ok great that's simple enough! Thanks!

And then even when it's present is it constant or does it rise and fall in mind moments as well?

Thanks! Where is this explained? I found it in the Abhidhammattha Sangaha but didn't see the detail to explain these questions.

Much appreciated. These are orthodox sources?

I see the normal life continuum as a pulsating direct current.
Or like walking. Yo always have one foot touching the floor.
After every Citta it pulls back to Bhava Citta.
