The end of the age of information

The future is going to be chaotic because of the end of the age of information. The Buddha said true dhamma will die when counterfeit dhamma will arise, just like people stop buying gold all together when counterfeit gold arises. It's also how they helped reduce the poaching business, by introducing fake ivory. Likewise, in the future you won't be able to trust information at all.

New AI technology can take one of your photos and animate it.

Go to 3:20 mark to see examples, and 4:40 for the best ones.

New AI technology can replicate your voice

That means in the future, you won't be able to know which news is real or fake, as any speech or event can be simulated. It will be like WW1 or WW2 when people had to wait for the newspaper to know what's going on in the world, but this will be way worse, you won't be able to trust anything. You won't know if a video of genocide is real or fake.

Someone could fake a kidnapping of children to demand money for example, and replicate a video and voice, which may lead to parents implanting microchips into their kids. Evidence for courts will be useless as they can be faked beyond discernment. This will be the end of the age of information, the news will become irrelevant, it may be an onset of a new dark age.

This may lead to decentralization and people living on farms again, the reduction of population as well.

That is a cheery outlook.

However, there will always be a powerful, innate need for trustworthy news. Therefore, if for no other reason than financial profit, some techies wizards will find a way to block or at least display some markers that say Fake & Not Real.

In addition, there will inventions that will sweep all AI phoniness from a device. Media will appear that are trustworthy.

Trust this prophecy.

Relying on AI to stop AI is not a good idea.

Once critical mass happens, there's no going back, the point of no return has been met. One cannot unlearn or unsee, one cannot become less ignorant once they have attained knowledge.

I trust the Buddha's prophecy on beings continuing to degenerate.

Hence the importance of the future dangers sutta series:

Its not only the future. Its happening right now. But when it happens today, its called a "conspiracy theory" when exposed.

Greetings,

Beyond what was said in the OP about "counterfeit Dhamma", there is no way that this topic can be pursued here in a manner that conforms to the purpose of Dhamma Wheel as a "Buddhist forum about the Dhamma of Theravāda Buddhism". This kind of discussion seems much more suited to Dharma Wheel Engaged: an "Engaged Buddhism forum, a nonsectarian community discussing the application of the Dharma to social and environmental issues."

Metta,
Paul. :)
