What you will do after Stream Entry ? (Poll)

Post by Alīno » Sun Sep 29, 2019 6:37 am

Hello friends :anjali:

A question arose in me after watching this Dhamma Talk with Ajahn Sujato.
At 2m.50sec. He said that basicly after the fruit of Stream Entry you can relax... (because full awakening is guaranteed).

So.
What are your plans after Stream Entry?

Will you strive and make futher effort ? :guns:
Will you 'just relax' and enjoy pleasures of your last 7 life's?
Other.. :stirthepot:

:anjali:

Ajahn Nanadassano (before ordaining) : Venerable Ajahn, what is the bigest error that buddhist do in their practice?
Ajahn Jayasaro : They stop practicing ...

I'll go down to my local pub and buy everyone in the bar a round on my tab.

In my opinion, you make further effort to become an Arahant in this very life.
One of the reason is that you may have miscalculated your attainment.

Not sure if such questions are applicable to those who attained stream entry. The question itself seem to be rooted in the polarity of existence and non existence, or at least, this is how my mind sees it.
And the Blessed One addressed the bhikkhus, saying: "Behold now, bhikkhus, I exhort you: All compounded things are subject to vanish. Strive with earnestness!"

This was the last word of the Tathagata.

The first thing I’ll do is tell everyone on Dhammawheel :guns:
May there be every Blessing
May all Heavenly Beings protect you
Through the power of all the
Buddhas,
Dhammas
and Sanghas
May you be happy and well :anjali:

It can be a risk !
But it's said that one can not miss the fruit of Stream Entry because it's an "dramatic and revolutionary" event, is like a King can not miss democratic revolution in his country )
But yes... it can be a risk... If there is a doubt about the fruit I think its better to make futher effort indeed !

I think it can arise because of sensual attachments... One can say: ok iam happy now, I feel freedom and ease, but... I realy loooove this cholate donut  how can I be an ascetic ?

I'm sure James would be contemplating the attitude in his mind during his act of generosity...

What about spending money treating other with beers ? Does observing Five precept allows us to treat others with alcoholic drinks ?

I think it was a metaphor to describe the great joy and the wish to share his happiness with others in wordly way...
But its true that it's said that one of the quality of Sotapanna is generosity :anjali:

Hm, yes I think so...

Anyway all people's who I suspected to be stream enterers had these qualities of generosity (with their time, wealth, effort etc) - because their mind delight in relinquishement of weight, when they grasp on something they suffer so they are naturally generous because it's a source of their happiness and joy. They enjoy lightness and non obstructed mind.

And also this quality of great energy. I think this energy and generosity qualities support each other in this way : generosity > lightness > more energy, like some strong man who beared on his sholders a big bag of stones who putted it down and now he have possession of all his energy, or like a train with a lot of weight who can't go fast once he relinquish this weight can go very fast because his energy is liberated.
(I think they are more than Sotapannas, but it can be a goid exemples Luang Por Chah was known for his great physical energy, Luang Por Mun also had great energy, peoples said that nobody can practice with the same effort as Luang Ta Mahaboowa... all great masters are so energetic that you can ask yourself - where from comes all this energy ??:ooo )

This energy develop other awakening factors joy>tranqulity>concentration> equanimity ..

But its just my perception and reflections so i can mistake..

I would think a stream enterer would see be one to see all the work left to be done and strive on.

Be aware ...
If one thinks one has realized some attainment, don’t even announce it to oneself. It can hinder progress and strengthen asmimāna (the conceit ‘I am’). Time will tell whether one has attained this or that. Remember the simile of the adze handle – if ones looks every day, one can’t see the wearing away of mental impurities - only over time, through constant practice, one can see this.
