Na h'eva saccāni bahūni nānā,

aññatra saññāya niccāni loke,

takkañ ca diṭṭhīusu pakappayitvā,

'saccaṁ musā'ti dvayadhammam āhu

"There are no several and various truths,That are permanent in the world, apart from perception,

It is by manipulating logic in speculative views,

That they speak of two things called 'truth and falsehood'."
Cūḷaviyūhasutta, Sutta Nipāta 4.12
"yen' eva 'bālo' ti paraṁ dahāti,tenātumānaṁ 'kusalo' ti cāha.

"That by which one dubs the other a fool,By that itself one calls oneself an expert."
Cūḷaviyūhasutta, Sutta Nipāta 4.12
'Idh'eva suddhi' iti vādiyanti,

nāññesu dhammesu visuddhim āhu ,

yaṁ nissitā tattha subhaṁ vadānā,

paccekasaccesu puthū niviṭṭhā.

"'Here in this system is purity', they assert polemically,

They are not prepared to grant purity in other systems of thought,

Whatever view they lean on, that they speak in praise of,

They are severally entrenched in their own individual truths."
Pasūrasutta, Sutta Nipāta 4.8
'saccan' ti so brāhmaṇo kiṁ vadeyya'musā' ti vā so vivadetha kenayasmiṁ samaṁ visamañ cāpi n'atthisa kena vādaṁ paṭisamyujeyya.

"What could that Brahmin speak of as 'truth',How could he debate calling something 'false',By what criterion could he, in whom there is no distinctionBetween equal and unequal, join issue in a debate?"
Māgandiyasutta, Majjhima Nikāya 75
upayo hi dhammesu upeti vādaṁ

anūpayaṁ kena kathaṁ vadeyya,

attaṁ nirattaṁ na hi tassa atthi

adhosi so diṭṭhim idheva sabbā.

One who has clingings enters into disputations amongst the dogmas.

How and wherefore would one speak of him who is not obsessed with clingings?

For by him there is nothing grasped or rejected.

He has in this world shaken off every philosophical view.
Duṭṭhaṭṭhakasutta, Sutta Nipāta 4.3
Born, become, arisen – made, prepared, short-lived
Bonded by decay and death – a nest for sickness, perishable
Produced by seeking nutriment – not fit to take delight in

Departure from this is peaceful – beyond reasoning and enduring
Unborn, unarisen – free from sorrow and stain
Ceasing of all factors of suffering – stilling of all preparations is bliss

Greetings Dylan,

Nice sutta extracts, but... is there a topic here, or is it just a "resource" topic on View Clinging?

Metta,
Paul. :)
"The uprooting of identity is seen by the noble ones as pleasurable; but this contradicts what the whole world sees." (Snp 3.12)

"It is natural that one who knows and sees things as they really are is disenchanted and dispassionate." (AN 10.2)

You knew, because you've previously read the Terms of Service.

The next step is to start topics that comply with them.

:thanks:

We will let it run for a bit to give you a chance to meet the defined standards.

Some people cling to the view that a set of sutta quotes is a topic. Others cling to the view that it isn't.

Cute. How about: "We have a Terms of Service"...
2. Speech

Any subject matter that may be off-topic or is intended to cause disruption or harm may be removed without notice. This includes, but is not restricted to:
- 2e. Disruptive meta-discussion (i.e. discussion about discussion, including in-topic complaints about the existence of discussions that don't suit your preferences)
4. Mindfulness

Since you are not here alone, new topics should invite discussion via questions, suggestions, an introduction, or provide appropriate context.
Since no one in this "topic" seems to have any interest in following the forum's Terms of Service, this topic is closed.

Dylan - For next time... A guide on how to get the most out of your new topics. (Feel free to do a Take 2)
