And so how do you feel when the Buddha sent Maha-Moggallana to do battle with a naga using his psychic powers. Do you feel like the Buddha was trying to immortalize Maha-Moggallana into a Jedi Master spirit?

Maybe it's the teachings of the Buddha you have a problem with and not just the Dhammakaya

A lot of this stuff is just folk religion tied up with Buddhism. Kinda like fundie Christians claiming to hear trumpets in the sky, and that prophecies are coming true and the anti-Christ is now in the White House. These beliefs are mostly within the US fundie Christian community but are also exported thru their branch churches and online media. One can mock these beliefs but there will always be a group who take these seriously.

Dude, if you paid any attention and actually read my posts, you would know that I am not a follower of the Wat. I have attempted to bring nuance into this highly emotive thread. Many of us here are highly critical of their practices regarding fundraising etc.
This does not however, make them into an evil cult bent on destroying the earth.
I don't recall reading anything here that says so. I don't deny that you may have heard such things from others though.

I'm certainly not an apologist for Wat Dhammakaya, but as others have pointed out, the personal experience you report of monks with nice phones eating great food and handling money is something that is readily apparent over the place in Thailand and elsewhere. That doesn't make it good, of course, but it would be more useful to hear about the differences between WD and other large well-endowed organisations.

Hi Bhante,

I'm sure you know that you'll find amulets for sale in almost all Thai Wats. Those fall under the same category I think.

Someone at Wat Phra dhammakaya sent me a voice message the other night, around 11pm, of thousands of people at the temple chanting together. She said she thought there were around 10,000 people there chanting. They were trying to reach 7 million rounds of the Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta that night. Even at 11pm the temple is still awake and practicing.

Latest Dhammakaya news:

The DSI (Department of Special Investigation) suspends two officers over 40 million baht (1,130,000 $) bribe in connection with the Wat Dhammakaya embezzlement scandal of the Klongchan Credit Union Cooperative.

That must be petty cash for them. :rolleye:

How is this Dhammakaya news? What does it have to do with the Dhammakaya?

If everyone in the world has the same goal
or dream of seeing true peace in the world, a
world with no borders, no soldiers, no police,
a world where people have only love and good
wishes for each other, true peace will not be difficult to achieve.
True world peace begins with
inner peace, when our minds are still and calm.
Once everyone can do this, true world peace can
happen at this very moment. To share in the same dream, we must learn
and experience meditation altogether. However,
people cannot communicate effectively with
one another yet. There are many barriers in
our communication, such as custom, tradition,
culture, language and geography. If we can
overcome these barriers and communicate to the
world about how to still the mind, we will have
true world peace. This is not just a dream, but a
determination to make it a reality. - Luang Phaw Dhammajayo

To explain. KCUC filed a lawsuit when they were becoming insolvent for 12 billion baht worth of checks the chairmen issued to numerous groups from 2009-2011 that the credit union alleged were unauthorized. One of the groups was Wat Phra Dhammakaya. About 380 million baht worth of checks went to his family members. However the court threw the case out for insufficient evidence twice in 2013 or something. DSI is just randomly opening the case again now and is for some reason only focusing on Dhammakaya.

Can you point us to some official report about the court throwing the case out?
Sure thing, here are some links a Thai contact I have in the temple sent me.

http://thaipublica.org/investigations/c ... hong-chan/

http://thaipublica.org/2015/10/credit-u ... ngchan_71/

http://thaipublica.org/2015/10/credit-u ... ngchan_74/

https://dsi.go.th/view.aspx?tid=T0001233

Unfortunately they are in Thai, which i know is against Dhammawheel policies but there aren't really any official English reports on this except for stuff Pro-Dhammakaya sites write which draw from the Thai stuff. I myself cant really read Thai very well but my contact told me these mention the prior cases. Sadly most of the stuff about this case in Thailand is (naturally) in Thai.

Here's one in English, but its from a pro-Dhammakaya site and i guess this wouldnt count as an official report.

http://www.dhammakayauncovered.com/edit ... ade-by-dsi

Perhaps a neutral third party person here on Dhammawheel who can read Thai fluently can take a look at the links i provided and give a brief summary?

The cases I am mentioning are case no. 146/2556 which was filed in 2013, case no. 63/2557 filed in 2014, and the current case which is case no. 27/2559.
These don't speak of "the court throwing the case out", but DSI dropping charges.

It does say, "... bribe in connection with the Wat Dhammakaya embezzlement scandal..."

Now I wonder if this is related to the earlier mess at DSI's attempt to arrest the abbot. (http://www.dhammawheel.com/posting.php? ... #ppr404779)

Assuming you are who I think you are, bhante, I've always marveled at your delicious brand of humour.

Btw, I think this relevant interview hasn't been introduced here yet:
