Does Metta Meditation Help Dying Creatures Attain Higher Rebirths?

Post by LG2V »

I was thinking about it as I saw a bug dying this morning. Metta from someone else can be felt, in my opinion. I was wondering if the critters and people who feel it during their dying moments feel "uplifted" and direct their minds to a loftier destination?

As a side note, I also think that Brahmaviharas can improve others' health and even save the lives of the sick in some instances.

I'm not sure this is a sutta based teaching, but I know the Thai Forest tradition teaches that people and other beings can "feel" metta and even know you are sending them metta, specifically if you do it after meditating or with a focused mind. Beyond that, it is skillful means (compassion, kindness, etc) so no problem with it but its doubtful it would help hem attain higher rebirths.
