Could Tanha lead to Bhava?

Post by SarathW » Thu May 24, 2018 5:02 am

Could Tanha lead to Bhava?
As per Dependent Origination Upadana lead to Bhava.
The question is whether Tanha alone is sufficient condition to lead to Bhava.
Do Arahants got Tanha?

SW.

Are you asking this question about the difference between Tanha and Upadana because you genuinely don't know the answer? Or are you asking this question to generate discussion?

Could Tanha lead to Bhava?
The 2nd Noble Truth says tanha leads to bhava:
And this, monks, is the noble truth of the origination of stress: the craving that makes for further becoming....

Four Noble Truths appeared to be an introductory teaching given in brief. Dependent Origination appeared to be a complete teaching given in detail.

The 2nd Noble Truth says tanha leads to bhava. However, the 2nd Noble Truth also includes "nandi" ("delight") which appears to be a synonym for attachment. MN 38 says: "Delight in feelings is attachment".
