In closing: since when has the Dhamma been about worldly gains?
NEVER!
Over and out!

ye dhammā hetuppabhavā tesaṁ hetuṁ tathāgato āha,
tesaṃca yo nirodho - evaṁvādī mahāsamaṇo.
Of those phenomena which arise from causes:
Those causes have been taught by the Tathāgata,
And their cessation too - thus proclaims the Great Ascetic.

Say you write a cool app for fun and got viral.I wish to learn about anybody who had accumulated wealth , not been greedy.
One million people bought it for $1.00 each.
Now you are a millionaire.

This is only a suggestion. But not a true practical past example.
Re: Greed is an antidote to poverty .
By luck is a different matter , but by actual effort and great determination (out of desire) that is totally different . I have seen my friend start from scratch and continuously wanting to accumulate more and more money , eventually , in the course of twenty years or thirty years he managed to have acquired at least few millions . Without the strong desire and persistent , I see very few can achieve this amount of money .

Nothing wrong creating wealth.Without the strong desire and persistent , I see very few can achieve this amount of money .
That creates a lot of jobs and services needed by people.
What matters is how you use your hard earn wealth.
As I said before what matters is whether it is right livelihood.

Like I said, the Japanese are quite good at concealing their poor.SarathW wrote: ↑Sun May 06, 2018 11:47 amI have been to Japan at least three times and travel to many places.binocular wrote: ↑Sun May 06, 2018 7:39 amOh, there's plenty of poverty in Japan. They're just better at concealing it than many other countries.

One can inherit wealth. That doesn't necessarily involve greed.

Re: Greed is an antidote to poverty .
I imagine the OP is referring to those who are self-made wealthy.
In regard to greed and wealth, it depends on how one defines greed. One could take a very broad definition and say that even getting out of bed and making some breakfast is greedy. It is greed for food, greed for survival, greed for existing and living. It is clear the Buddha did not take that broad of a definition as he himself ate food and ate for sustenance.
The Buddha also accepted generous donation offers from bankers, merchants, and other business men and women without condemning their livelihoods.
Probably the cut-off point should be when ambition becomes too attached and one becomes greedy in a way that is harmful to oneself and others. We all know how greed can be harmful to others, but it can also be harmful to oneself. For example, a business charges too much for his products; customers go elsewhere and the businessman goes bankrupt.

How do they do it?
Just a matter of interest.
