Honesty. Radical honesty with yourself. See what is and the rest follows.

"Master Ananda, what is the aim of this holy life lived under Gotama the contemplative?"

"Brahman, the holy life is lived under the Blessed One with the aim of abandoning desire."

https://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitak ... .than.html

"But what is your teacher's teaching? What does he proclaim?''

"I am new, my friend, not long gone forth, only recently come to this Dhamma & Discipline. I cannot explain the Dhamma in detail, but I will tell you the gist in brief."

Then Sāriputta the wanderer spoke thus to the Ven. Assaji:

Speak a little or a lot,
but tell me just the gist.
The gist is what I want.
What use is a lot of verbosity?

‘Kiṃvādī panāyasmato satthā kimakkhāyī’ti. ‘Ahaṃ kho, āvuso, navo acirapabbajito adhunāgato imaṃ dhammavinayaṃ, na tāhaṃ sakkomi vitthārena dhammaṃ desetuṃ, api ca te saṃkhittena atthaṃ vakkhāmī’ti. Atha khvāhaṃ, āvuso, assajiṃ bhikkhuṃ etadavocaṃ—‘hotu, āvuso,

Appaṃ vā bahuṃ vā bhāsassu,
Atthaṃyeva me brūhi;
Attheneva me attho,
Kiṃ kāhasi byañjanaṃ bahun’ti.

Then Ven. Assaji gave this Dhamma exposition to Sāriputta the Wanderer:

Whatever phenomena arise from cause:
their cause
& their cessation.
Such is the teaching of the Tathāgata,
the Great Contemplative.

Then to Sāriputta the wanderer, as he heard this Dhamma exposition, there arose the dustless, stainless Dhamma eye: "Whatever is subject to origination is all subject to cessation."

Atha kho āyasmā assaji sāriputtassa paribbājakassa imaṃ dhammapariyāyaṃ abhāsi—

“Ye dhammā hetuppabhavā,
Tesaṃ hetuṃ tathāgato āha;
Tesañca yo nirodho,
Evaṃvādī mahāsamaṇo”ti.

Atha kho sāriputtassa paribbājakassa imaṃ dhammapariyāyaṃ sutvā virajaṃ vītamalaṃ dhammacakkhuṃ udapādi—“yaṃ kiñci samudayadhammaṃ sabbaṃ taṃ nirodhadhamman”ti.

"Just as the ocean has a single taste — that of salt — in the same way, this Dhamma-Vinaya has a single taste: that of release."

Is the pratice simply"letting go"?
The practice should be established in experience. Why let go? Because materiality is impermanent. The unwholesome root of greed works against impermanence, so that must be countered by dissolution being systematically studied:

“To Upali the householder, as he was sitting right there, there arose the dustless, stainless Dhamma eye: Whatever is subject to origination is all subject to cessation (impermanence).—MN 56

Bound to be small and ordinary

Seeking to stop the empty story
Of all the glory
From spiralling on and on
The end
My friend
Not wanting to be contrary
Was bound to be small and ordinary

And to prevent the heart from leaning
There would be some effort to avoid any meaning

Ajahn Kalyano
If you didn't care
What happened to me
And I didn't care for you

We would zig-zag our way
Through the boredom and pain
Occasionally glancing up through the rain

Wondering which of the
Buggers to blame
And watching for pigs on the wing
