This appears to be an issue of great interest to Members. Following is a link to a 27-page discussion on the topic: viewtopic.php?f=37&t=6847
Those who have reached full release ... There’s nothing rigid or unyielding about it. https://www.dhammatalks.org/Archive/Wri ... n0017.html
Probably not necessary to worry too much about tossing off a batch of orphans in the context of the first training rule to refrain from taking life. Rather, buttering the corn seems more likely to relate to the third training rule to abstain from sexual misconduct.

In order to kill there has to be a "being".

Your sperm is life form (like plants), but not a being.
So it's living just like our cells but not a being. What is the requirement of a "being", by existing and moving alone surely is not enough, what do you think?

Hello:

SN (23.2)
I have heard that on one occasion the Blessed One was staying near Savatthi at Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's monastery. Then Ven. Radha went to the Blessed One and, on arrival, having bowed down to him sat to one side. As he was sitting there he said to the Blessed One: "'A being,' lord. 'A being,' it's said. To what extent is one said to be 'a being'?"

"Any desire, passion, delight, or craving for body, feeling, perception, formations, consciousness, Radha: when one is caught up[1] there, tied up[2] there, one is said to be 'a being.'[3]
So when you have the 5 aggregates, and have craving and clinging for them, you are officially a living being.

Regards.

Right. When one attacks the one-eyed purple-headed warrior, it's the craving and clinging which may be problematic, hopefully not the killing.

I'm wondering is masturbation the same thing as breaking the first precept since the sperm is unable to live outside of human body for long time. Thanks.
Also in the new thread list is a thread asking about how to meet Buddhist singles.

I think many people would be better off being concerned ( or generating ) small questions and using the time to just watch their breathing or doing metta for that spare 5-10 min they have. They will end up feeling good, conditioning their mind well, and solving things automagically.
Whatever a bhikkhu frequently thinks and ponders upon, that will become the inclination of his mind. - MN 19
